Get A Super Screen For The Super Bowl
Feb 2012 03

If there was ever a reason to justify – to yourself or significant other – taking the plunge and upgrading your TV set, the Super Bowl serves the purpose well.  We don’t want to send you out to your local brick-and-mortar without first offering up a few options to – at least – point you in the right direction.

For your viewing enjoyment, here are a few EVP recommendations.

Affordable – Samsung PN43D450

All I can say is: Value. The PQ on this can hang with the best of them despite the 720P resolution. Don’t be dissuaded by the marketing hype; you need to be setting very close to your set for the human eye to appreciate the benefit of 1080P resolutions. And when it comes to sports, nothing beats the exceptional refresh rates of plasma technology. You won’t find any integrated apps however we wholly recommend you pair this with an Apple TV anyway. At $450 for 43 inches of viewing bliss, this is an absolute steal. Check out Amazon Open Box warehouse deals for even more savings.

Home Run – Optoma HD20 1080P Projector

If you can control the ambient light, a projector can provide you some incredible value at a reasonable price point.  If you have a white wall, you instantly have an 100+ inch HD display for under a grand.  Cool right?  Having 1080 lines of horizontal resolution really helps out when you’re throwing an image this big – just make sure you pair this puppy with some quality source material (read: Blu-Ray).

The Dark Horse – Sony Bravia XBR-55HX929

There’s nothing quite like a set that provides such inky blacks that, during dark scenes, it becomes impossible to discern when the bezel ends and the screen begins.  Well, this TV is an utter black hole and the picture quality benefits immensely because of it providing rich shadow detail and color that’s spot on right out of the box. A full compliment of integrated apps, Wi-Fi, and a Gorilla Glass screen add to the already amazing value.  Oh, and it’s 3D to boot.
