Most people have never heard of the Ascari motor car company. They’re certainly not as recognized as the renowned Ferrari or Lamborghini nameplates. You certainly won’t find posters of them plastered all over the walls of young dreamers – not yet anyway. This is where the Ascari’s A10 comes in…
The company; born in Britain was conceived by a Dutch millionaire. To commemorate its 10th anniversary in the industry Ascari created the A10 which was designed by former F1 designer Paul Brown. This is a supercar that offers world-class performance without any of the typical exotic car interior accommodations. This is a hand-built perfectly weighted pure bred racing machine, that goes fast exceptionally well.
Here are the numbers; 0 to 60 in just 2.8 seconds is epic with a 1/4 mile time of 10.8 seconds @ 138 mph. Its top speed of 220 mph is superior to almost anything on the road. Its mind-blowing speed comes from the power created by a BMW 5.0 V8 engine that produces a staggering 625 hp. The cars weight is a paltry 2,822 lbs, about the same weight as a small dog.
The looks are sharp too, it has a classic shape that’s been updated by its detailed carbon fiber finish. It that reminds me of the cars that competed in the 1960’s Le Mans races – timeless and beautiful.
Cost is excessive, $530,000, and for that there’s no soundproofing, air conditioning, or even a stereo. So be prepared to go partially deaf, sweat a lot, and be forced to listen to that beautiful BMW V8 with whatever remains of your hearing – which isn’t so bad. This is a race car that’s ready for the road, its an interesting market this car…pricey – yes, daft – yes. But for the outrageous level of performance there’s not much out there that can compete with its acceleration and handling.
No doubt, the millionaire that buys it will have to forget all things it doesn’t have and focus on the one thing it does better than most – drive fast. Visit this site to see more of the Ascari A10.
