The ‘Posh’ Range Rover Evoque
May 2012 24

Gucci, Chanel, Armani; all are synonymous with class and luxury. The Land Rover brand is no exception. Especially when you see the new Range Rover Evoque, despite what they say it primarily caters to women, which is fine especially if you’re a girl looking to Peacock to a whole new level. In fact, Victoria Beckham (a.k.a. Posh Spice) was the fastidious design consultant behind this new luxury SUV.

Posh = Peacock

Yes, you heard right. I never thought I’d see the day a Spice Girl would influence the design on the prestigious Land Rover brand, but she’s done it in spectacular fashion along side the genius desiger Gerry McGovern. Suddenly some of those pre-teens that grew up in the mid-90’s listening to the Spice Girls are now young professionals that can relate to Posh’s polished British taste, enter the Evoque.

Let’s start with the styling cues, with its rising beltline and rear sloping roof it’s aggressive enough to melt the paint off any typical obligatory girly ride (you hear me VW Bug?). It’s really a blend of the larger scale Mini Cooper and a downsized version of a full size Range Rover, with a younger and sportier feel. Somehow this combination works well with its own unique styling cues to create a truly one-of-a-kind look.

For drivability the Evoque is perfectly agile for city driving and stable enough for some off road fun too. The quality and craftsmanship are second to none.

Now the important features for the ladies:

  • Excellent ride; comes from a special suspension that monitors the road conditions 1,000 times per second. Can your Honda Accord do this? No? I didn’t think so.
  • Vision assist includes 5 cameras mounted in every direction to keep you from hitting everything and everybody. No more parking lot mishaps.
  • Sublime interior is beyond reproach. Materials include microsuede, mohair mats, vintage leather and stitching.
  • A huge glass panoramic roof that runs the entire length of the cabin
  • Keyless ignition
  • Touchscreen electronics
  • Heated seats
  • 11 or 17 speaker sound systems
  • Automatic wipers
  • Bluetooth and audio connectivity
  • Power lift tailgate
  • Sporty looks include 19 inch wheels. 20 inch optional
  • Xenon headlamps with LED accents
  • Available in 4 door and Coupe
  • Turbo charged four-cylinder engine that produces plenty of power (240 hp) and fuel efficiency (18 city/28 highway). Saving the environment is Peacock.
  • Terrain Response – has multiple settings – sand mode, snow, ice, loose gravel, etc., changes throttle response, suspension settings traction for real off road capability. Something every father would prefer his daughters’ vehicle to feature.

Says Victoria:“When I first started working with the design team on the Evoque special edition I did a lot of research, and created mood boards to show the team my love of timeless and classic design. I looked at yachts, luxury jets, classic cars, movies, personalities and fashion.

The Evoque’s Posh Interior

“I want everyone who gets into this car to feel special and empowered by its quality and craftsmanship.”

The mad genius Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern added: “At the first meeting, Victoria herself inspired the use of rose gold. She was wearing dark clothes and no jewelry apart from a rose gold, man’s watch. I was struck by the juxtaposition of the masculine watch on a very elegant, feminine wrist.”

There are three “design themes” (Pure, Dynamic, and Prestige) to choose from which include varying degrees of the aforementioned features. As design director Gerry McGovern stated Land Rover features E.T.O. (Engineered To Order) which is a concept of the customization of luxury which will be coming to all other models in the Land Rover brand. This is something that helps you completely customize your car exactly the way you intend it. So check with your dealer as to which suits your inner-Peacock.

Price which is hefty – $44,000 to $53,000 depending on the chosen package, it’s not cheap to elevate your game sometimes. With that you get just about everything standard.  Make no mistake; this compact luxury SUV caters to the discerning woman who likes something different than the usual mini, drop top, sporty coupe, or crossover. Instead this is for the active professional with some cash in the bank that likes performance but can also deliver class to go with it.

If you’re looking to Peacock a new ride consider the Evoque, a vehicle that has unparalleled style, design, and sophistication wrapped up in one neat little package – inside and out.
