While the world’s top designers are busy debuting all the latest trends at New York Fashion Week, another event took place last night that had some of the planet’s most famous celebrities showing off their fashion credentials.
That’s right, the Grammys were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and the biggest names in music were out in force to collect their gongs. But let’s be honest… who cares about who won what when there were so many gorgeous dresses being paraded on the red carpet?
As usual, some celebs went to a lot of effort and Peacock’d their way to the forefront… while others didn’t really seem to bother and faded away. So, here’s my lowdown of the best and worst outfits of the night.
Beyonce stood out from the crowd by choosing a modern Osman jumpsuit with a geometric black and white bodice. It showed off her figure perfectly, while the boxy-shaped shoulders and sleeved added an 80s vibe. She finished off her look with bright red lipstick and a slicked-back ponytail.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love Rihanna. But some of her outfit choices are… interesting to say the least. She obviously likes to shock with her clothes and always goes for the wow factor… often for the wrong reasons. But she got it 100 per cent right last night and her bright red Azzedine Alaia dress was definitely my fave of the evening. Full on glamor with a long, floaty skirt and just a subtle hint of sexiness with a sheer cross-over bodice. I love, love, LOVE it!
Taylor looked angelic in a floaty white J Mendel gown with silver detailing. But honestly, I thought it was a bit boring and safe. She’s done this before. Super pretty, but try something different please Taylor!
If Justin Timberlake was going for a Michael Jackson-inspired outfit at the Grammys he definitely succeeded. The dapper Suit & Tie singer finished off his traditional black suit and white shirt combo with a bow tie and a pair of black and white gangster-style brogues.
He’s the smooth, soulful rapper who writes thoughtful songs about love, heartache and the pressures of fame. If this wasn’t enough to have women everywhere swooning over Drake, his smart Grammys suit certainly will. His suit with a navy jacket and bow tie was perfect for the occasion.
A traditional black suit with a dinner jacket and a dickie bow… and the biggest diamond ring you’ve ever seen. When does Jay-Z ever not look good? Especially with Beyonce on his arm as well.
What was Adele thinking? If her aim was to dress up like a pair of curtains then she succeeded. Usually she looks so glamorous on the red carpet, but last night her red floral A-line dress just looked frumpy and old-fashioned.
I can’t believe I’m about to say this but yes, Alexa Chung goes on my bad list. A few years ago I thought this girl could do no wrong but recently I think some of her outfits have been disappointing. Last night’s dress was definitely a let-down – Alexa looked more like she was off to a picnic than an awards ceremony in her summery A-line printed dress. Cute, but where’s the glamor Alexa?
And finally… Katy Perry
I’m on the fence when it comes to Katy Perry… do I like her dress or not? It definitely flattered her figure and the elaborate jeweled neckline is stunning. But I’m not keen on the mint green color and I think she’s got a bit too much flesh on show. Undecided.
