It’s made of super lightweight materials to maximize its insane power output and combined with its all-wheel drive and Formula One style suspension system, it will keep you firmly planted to the road where the big Lambo can out handle, out brake, and accelerate faster than just about any super car on the road today.

Ford GTX1 = Peacock

An upgrade to the Ford GT is the GTX1. Loaded with more power (700 hp) and less suspension things have gotten even more interesting. Unfortunately, there’s no reliable performance numbers available for the GTX1. By comparison the lesser powered 550 hp GT has a top speed of 205 mph, and 1/4 mile time of 11.2 seconds @ 131.2 mph. One could only estimate the GTX1′s performance, with an additional 150 hp it should be a substantial improvement.

Being a roadster has its pros and cons, on one hand it’ll seriously mess with your hair style, on the other hand it’ll allow you to hear the pantomime exiting the enhanced exhaust system. Priced at $150,000 it was a bargain for the amount of uniqueness and performance. 500 were targeted to be built, sadly only 38 actually came to fruition.

I used to love watching Speed Racer as a kid, and in some aspects the GTX1 reminds me of how my favorite supercars really are cartoons that have come alive, and this topless monster is no exception.

To make matters worse it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing car on the road either. With all those inlets and grates it look like an unfinished sketch in some engineers head. Even the interior is just bits and pieces borrowed from Audi. So what’s all the fuss over this supercar?

This car does one thing better than many of the other aforementioned manufactures. It goes exceptionally fast, even by supercar standards. This is basically a road-legal racer, the Apollo is designed with downforce in mind. Its 2,400 lb carbon-fiber monocoque generates 3,300 lbs of downforce which keeps it firmly planted to the ground. Theoretically, all of its spoilers and inlets produce enough downforce to enable it to drive upside at 200 mph. The power comes from a twin-turbo version of the Audi RS4′s 4.2-litre V8, producing 650 bhp and 627 lb ft of torque. It’s top speed is a blazing 224 mph, Peacock indeed.

It remains to be seen if Gumpert’s bare bones approach will elevate it to top supercar status. A supercar typically is meant to blend incredible performance with supermodel looks. Usually, when a wealthy car enthusiast is in the market for a $333,500 supercar he may want to have the neck-snapping looks to go along with it.
